Roller and Solar Shades
What’s the Difference?
Roller Shades
Focus on aesthetics, roller shades come in a multitude of fabrics.
Sheer—Allows the most sunlight in and the least amount of privacy.
Light Filtering—Blocks some sunlight, and offers a moderate amount of privacy. Darker colors may offer more privacy than lighter colors.
Room-Darkening—Blocks most sunlight and offers semi-privacy.
Blackout—Blocks all sunlight and offers complete privacy.
Solar Shades
Focus on protection from sun and privacy, offering interior and exterior options.
Darker Colors—Absorb more solar heat to increase energy savings, better light control, reduced interior glare, and enhanced view in the daylight.
Lighter Colors—Reflect more solar heat to increase energy savings, allow more daylight though the fabric, diminished view in daylight compared to darker colors.
Available in 4 Levels of openness:
1% openness (blocks 99% of UV rays).
3% openness (blocks 97% of UV rays).
5% openness (blocks 95% of UV rays).
10% openness (blocks 90% of UV rays).
Lower Openness—Tight-weave, limited daytime view-through, minimal daylight filtered through fabric, and more heat blocking.
Higher Openness—Daylight filtered through fabric, diffused view.
